US-based Liberian activist Norris Johnson has called for greater accountability, transparency and independence across Liberia’s justice system, urging authorities to investigate serious allegations without political interference.
In a statement titled “Liberia Must Come Before Politics: A Call for Accountability from the Police to the Courts,” Johnson said the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime must extend beyond arrests and investigations to prosecutors, judges, court officials and other justice institutions.
Johnson, who said he is not affiliated with the Unity Party, CDC or any political party, stressed that allegations involving law-enforcement officials, politicians, judges, businesspeople or alleged criminals must be investigated based on credible evidence rather than political affiliation.
He cautioned against what he described as “trial by Facebook,” saying social media outrage, rumors, friendships and political loyalty should not be treated as evidence.
The activist also called for judicial reforms, transparent investigations into alleged misconduct and urgent action to address the backlog of criminal cases and indicted individuals awaiting trial.
“No sacred cows. No political protection. No selective justice,” Johnson declared, emphasizing that “Liberia must come first.”
