The Gbarwein Public School in Grand Bassa County, which serves over 15 towns and 30 villages, has been left in a deplorable state due to government neglect. Despite calls and communication from the administration of the school, the government has failed to provide much-needed resources.
The school, which was established as a community school in 2000 and later turned over to the government in 2003, has suffered from poor infrastructure, lack of furniture such as chairs and blackboards. Registrar, Mr. Sampson Torkolun, expressed frustration that their pleas for help have been ignored by government officials and educational authorities.
With only the principal on the government payroll, the school’s four teachers are left to volunteer their services. Mr. Torkolun emphasized that without the support of the community, the school would not be able to survive.
The Verity News Bassa Correspondent, who visited the school, reported on the dire conditions that the students and teachers are facing. It is clear that urgent action is needed to address the neglect that the Gbarwein Public School has been experiencing.
