HIV Alarm in Toe Town: Over 60 Residents Registered at City Clinic

By D. Abraham Cooper Sr.,

TOE TOWN, Grand Gedeh County — Health authorities in Toe Town have raised concerns over the growing number of HIV/AIDS cases in the area, revealing that more than 60 residents are currently registered as living with the virus at the Toe City Clinic.

The disclosure was made during activities marking the B’hai District Youth Congress, where healthcare workers used the gathering to intensify public awareness campaigns on HIV prevention, voluntary testing, stigma reduction, and adherence to treatment.

According to health officials, the number reflects only those who have been tested and officially enrolled for treatment and monitoring at the clinic, suggesting that there could be additional unreported cases within surrounding communities.

Medical personnel at the event emphasized the importance of regular HIV testing, particularly among young people, noting that early detection and consistent treatment remain critical in preventing the spread of the virus and helping infected persons live healthy lives.

Health workers also urged residents to avoid discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS, stressing that stigma continues to discourage many individuals from seeking testing and treatment.

“The fight against HIV is not only for health workers; it requires the collective effort of the entire community,” one health practitioner stated during the awareness session.

The awareness campaign formed part of broader efforts by local health authorities and community stakeholders to educate citizens on safe health practices, responsible behavior, and the importance of seeking medical attention early.

Residents attending the youth congress reportedly welcomed the engagement and called for increased health education programs across Grand Gedeh County, especially in rural communities where access to information and healthcare services remains limited.

The latest disclosure has sparked concern among community leaders and residents, with many calling for stronger intervention measures, increased medical support, and expanded outreach programs to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS in the region.

Health authorities have not yet released a breakdown of the registered cases by age or gender, but officials say awareness and treatment campaigns will continue in the district.
