Two families, The Johnson Family and The Payne Family, are claiming full and unrestricted ownership of the entire Jallah Town and Capital Bypass, where over 30,000 inhabitants now reside in Monrovia. The disputed land in question is the testate estate of the former Chief Justice Federick E.R. Johnson, according to 2017 and 2023 Court’s records in possession of Verity News. The both families are claiming from 3rd street to Gabriel Tucker Bridge (old bridge).
Former Representative Acarous Moses Gray writes
“Enough is Enough as we demand national government intervention with immediate effect!!
In 2015 while serving my first term as a Representative, the Johnson Family claimed to have secured a writ of eviction that could affect over 30,000 inhabitants from the Gabriel Tucker Bridge to 3rd Street, Sinkor. I do recall that it was on a Saturday when the eviction started right opposite the Capitol Building where is known as Worwein and Jallah’s Town Communities.
As the people’s representative we got involved and insisted that the state is obligated to protecting its citizens and we stood our grounds along with the inhabitants to halt the eviction. We also resisted the eviction on grounds that many families had legitimate deeds and some homes have existed since the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Source: allAfrica.comhttps://share.google/HeSBhtlzTaG63YZ51
Now that notice is being issued to over 10,000 inhabitants between Worwein and Jallah’s Town Communities we demand national government to intervene in protecting its citizens. If this eviction order is executed in full more than 30,000 inhabitants from Slipway Crown Hill, Capitol Bye-Pass, Worwein and Jallah’s Town will be affected.
You may all be shocked that the Johnson Family was claiming 48 acres of land including the University of Liberia main campus.
I wonder why will the court even issue an eviction order for a single family claiming 48 acres of land in the heart of Monrovia and not considering the broader interest of the masses. We therefore call on the inhabitants to stand up for their rights as was done in 2015. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”
