LDEA, The Hub of Sidelining Under Kromah’s Leadership

What appeared to be a hub of sidelining at the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) with some workers expressing unfriendly working environment under the leadership of Abraham Kromah as Director General.

In less than four months in office, the leadership of Abraham Kromah at the LDEA continues to face internal conflicts.

The surprising tender of resignation of the Chief Public Relations Officer (PRO) Adolphus Quai, and recent conflict between the Director General and his Deputy demonstrate that the institution faces internal turmoil that needs serious attention.

Recently, growing tension escalated between the Director of LDEA, Abraham Kromah, and his Deputy for Operations, Hassan Fardiga, as they engaged in a heated verbal altercation.

According to reports, the disagreement escalated to the point where Fardiga reportedly instructed his driver to retrieve his weapon. However, the driver declined, citing his own frustration with the situation.

The same has unfolded as Quai’s resignation comes amidst growing discord between himself and the agency’s Director General, Abraham S. Kromah, raising questions about the agency’s leadership and its commitment to effective communication and collaboration.

Quai, in his letter of resignation addressed to Hon. Kromah, explicitly cites a misalignment between his experience and vision and the direction set forth by the agency’s leadership. Despite his nearly seven years of dedicated service as the spokesperson for the LDEA, Quai expresses frustration over what he perceives as a lack of recognition for the pivotal role his office plays in promoting the agency’s agenda.

Adolphus Quai’s Letter Addressed to LDEA Director General Abraham Kromah

The resignation letter, dated May 20, 2024, outlines Quai’s professional commitment to the LDEA since his enlistment in 2016 and subsequent appointment as Chief PRO. However, it underscores a breakdown in communication and respect within the agency, culminating in Quai’s decision to step down from his role.

While Adolphus Quai’s resignation highlights personal grievances, it also raises broader concerns about the state of leadership within the LDEA. His allegations of being threatened, disrespected, and sidelined point to deeper systemic issues that may hinder the agency’s effectiveness in combating drug trafficking and related crimes.

Furthermore, Quai’s departure underscores the importance of fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment within law enforcement agencies. Effective communication and mutual respect are not only essential for internal cohesion but also for maintaining public trust and confidence in the agency’s operations.

As the LDEA navigates this period of transition, it must address the underlying issues raised by Quai’s resignation and take proactive steps to rebuild trust and unity within its ranks. Failure to do so risks further erosion of morale and undermines the agency’s ability to fulfill its mandate effectively.

In light of these developments, stakeholders, including government officials and civil society organizations, should closely monitor the situation within the LDEA and advocate for measures to promote transparency, accountability, and professionalism within Liberia’s law enforcement agencies.

Quai’s resignation serves as a stark reminder that leadership conflicts and breakdowns in communication can have far-reaching consequences, underscoring the need for strong, principled leadership and a commitment to upholding the values of integrity and respect within the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency.
