Vienna, Austria — Liberia has called for equitable access to peaceful nuclear technology, urging the international community to ensure that its benefits reach countries and communities with the greatest needs.
Speaking at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung stressed that access to peaceful nuclear technology should not be determined by geography or national income.
“Access to peaceful nuclear technology must not be determined by geography or by national income,” Vice President Koung said.
He specifically called for greater access to cancer diagnosis and treatment through the IAEA’s Rays of Hope initiative, particularly in countries where patients face limited access to essential services.
Vice President Koung said Liberia stands ready to work with the IAEA and international partners to apply nuclear science toward cancer treatment, resilient agriculture, safer communities and sustainable development.
He said such cooperation could help transform scientific advances into tangible benefits and renewed hope for Liberians.
