Lofa County University Breaks Ground for Campus Solarization Project

By Morlu F. Freeman Sr.

LOFA COUNTY — Lofa County University (LCU) has officially broken ground for the solarization of its campus, a move aimed at improving electricity supply and enhancing operations across the institution.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, brought together members of the university administration, faculty, staff, students, local county officials, and representatives of A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions LTD. Activities began with a tour of key facilities on the university campus.

Providing an overview of the project, LCU President Dr. Isaac Podah disclosed that the initiative will deliver a 100-kilowatt solar power system for the institution. He said the project is being funded by the Government of Liberia and followed a competitive procurement process that resulted in the selection of A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions LTD to carry out the work.

Dr. Podah further explained that the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) will serve as the owner’s engineer for the project.

According to the university president, LCU has long depended on generators as its primary source of electricity, a situation he described as expensive and inefficient. He noted that frequent generator breakdowns have disrupted activities in several offices and departments across the campus.

He expressed confidence that the installation of the solar power system will significantly ease the university’s electricity challenges and provide more reliable power for academic and administrative activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions LTD, Daniel Padmore, assured the university community that the project would be implemented according to established standards. He added that the project is expected to be completed within five months.
