Press Statement
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports proudly celebrates three outstanding footballers of Liberian heritage whose talents continue to shine on the world’s biggest stage.
Today, we recognize Timothy Weah, who proudly represents the United States while carrying forward a legacy deeply connected to Liberia as the son of former President and football icon, George Weah.
We also salute Haji Wright, another proud son of Liberian heritage whose dedication, perseverance, and performances at the highest level of football continue to inspire young athletes across Liberia and beyond.
Additionally, we honor Alphonso Davies, whose remarkable journey from a Liberian refugee family to becoming one of the world’s most respected footballers and a leader for Canada stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, hope, and excellence. He’s the youngest captain in World Cup 2026.
Though they represent different nations, Timothy Weah, Haji Wright, and Alphonso Davies remain connected by a shared Liberian heritage that continues to bring pride to our nation.
Their achievements serve as a reminder to every young Liberian that greatness knows no boundaries and that with hard work, discipline, and determination, dreams can become reality.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports commends these exceptional athletes for their contributions to global football and for exemplifying the strength, character, and limitless potential of people with Liberian roots.
Your success is Liberia’s pride. Your journey is Liberia’s inspiration. LET’S GO BOYS! YOR EAT YOR SHOW Tonight.”
