Police Charge 10 in Red Light Mob Assault and Public Humiliation Case

By Emmanuel M Kangar, Jr.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged ten individuals in connection with the violent mob assault and public humiliation of a young woman in the Red Light Commercial District, describing the incident as “degrading, inhumane, and unlawful.”

In a statement issued on May 12, 2026, the police confirmed that the defendants have been charged with multiple offenses including harassment, sexual assault, disorderly conduct, simple assault, felonious restraint, reckless endangerment, and offensive touching.

Those charged include Shelton Dolo, Emmanuel Flomo, Abel C. Dandy, Ernest Koiyan, Lincoln Sungbeh, Prince Saykay, Daddy Stephen, Emmanuel Dee, Joe Roberts, and Eric Gbokolo.

The LNP said the charges were based on preliminary investigations, witness statements, and video evidence, as well as accounts provided by Telewowoyan Flomo and Augustine T. Musa.

Authorities added that additional suspects identified through ongoing investigations and digital evidence analysis will also face prosecution.

The police strongly condemned the widely circulated video showing the victim being stripped and humiliated, stating that the conduct violates Liberia’s Constitution and criminal laws, and undermines public order and human dignity.

According to the statement signed by Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman, the case has been forwarded to court for trial, while emphasizing that all accused persons are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.

The LNP further warned that mob violence and gender-based humiliation damage Liberia’s international reputation and could negatively affect investment, tourism, and national stability.

It urged the public to reject mob justice and allow the legal process to take its course, while calling on community leaders, civil society, and religious groups to help discourage similar acts.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the dignity and rights of all persons across Liberia.
