The Liberian Senate is expected to convene tomorrow in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, for a four-day retreat from Thursday, June 6, to Sunday, June 9, 2024.
The retreat, themed “Ensuring a Robust Senate Oversight,” aims to revitalize the County Development Fund to positively impact the wellbeing of Liberians, review and amend Senate rules where necessary, and refine the Senate’s modernization vision.
Senators under the 55th Legislature will use the retreat to develop a comprehensive roadmap agenda focusing on effective decision-making to enhance the nation’s revenue generation.
This initiative will prioritize program-based budgeting across Liberia’s 15 political sub-divisions.
Additionally, the retreat will address salary disparities within the Senate, evaluate the progress of modernization efforts, and tackle critical issues such as security and Senate access control.
In preparation for the retreat, the Plenary of the Liberian Senate has canceled its regular session scheduled for Thursday, June 6.
