Gbotuo, Nimba County — Two children, age four and six, have been reported missing in Gbotuo Town, Lower Nimba County, following a tense incident on Sunday involving individuals said to have entered into the area from neighboring Bar Town.
According to local accounts, a group described as Burkinabè nationals allegedly entered the town without authorization, causing panic among residents. Witnesses reported that the individuals intimidated community members, leading many to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Residents further claimed that food supplies were destroyed during the incident, worsening the distress in the community. However, the most alarming development came after families returned to their homes and discovered that two young children could not be found.
Local authorities have confirmed that at least two individuals from Bar Town have been arrested in connection with the incident and transferred to Sanniquellie City, where investigations are ongoing. Security personnel have also launched a search operation to locate the missing children.
Community leaders are calling for calm as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure the safe return of the children.
