Montserrado County — The Secretary General of the Unity Party (UP) in Montserrado County has attributed the continued unemployment of many loyal party supporters to a lack of formal qualifications and professional skills.
Speaking on Punch FM, Amos Kollie, Secretary General of the Unity Party (Liberia) Montserrado Chapter, said internal assessments show that a significant number of party partisans who were active during the political campaign period have not been able to secure government or institutional jobs because they do not meet required standards.
“A major reason that most Unity Party partisans who were in the trenches have not been given jobs is because they lack the qualifications and expertise,” Kollie said.
He added that the situation has become a recurring concern within the party, particularly as expectations for employment opportunities remain high among grassroots supporters.
“This is a problem we’ve identified. When you ask majority of those you see agitating for jobs to bring their qualifications, they don’t return,” he stated.
Kollie’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions between political participation and employment expectations, as parties across Liberia continue to face pressure to reward loyalists with job opportunities following electoral victories.
Montserrado County remains the country’s most populous political subdivision and a key base for party mobilization and support.
