The Youth Chairman of the ruling Unity Party has called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to dismiss Justice Minister Oswald Tweh, accusing him of undermining the government’s anti-corruption agenda.
Speaking on Punch FM, Youth Chairman Togar Melvin Cephas alleged that the Justice Minister is not committed to prosecuting corrupt officials and is “playing with cases” involving former government actors.
Cephas claimed that the ruling establishment came to power on a strong anti-corruption platform but said the Justice Minister is failing to advance that objective. He further alleged that Tweh and former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah share close personal and church ties, suggesting that such relations may be influencing judicial decisions.
“The Justice Minister has no understanding of how we came to power. We came to power to prosecute corrupt officials, but the Justice Minister is playing with our cases. Let the president dismiss him,” Cephas stated during the broadcast.
He also alleged that the Justice Minister and Tweah both attend the S.T. Nagbe United Methodist Church and meet privately, claims which have not been independently verified.
Cephas further argued that the government recently lost a corruption-related case due to alleged interference aimed at protecting political allies. He insisted that the fight against corruption was being weakened by internal divisions.
The Youth Chairman announced that an Executive Committee meeting of the Unity Party will be convened upon President Boakai’s return from Kenya to discuss the matter and other internal concerns.
Neither the Justice Minister nor Samuel Tweah has publicly responded to the allegations.
