Monrovia, Liberia – At a memorial service held in Monrovia, members of the “Political Sons of George Solo” paid emotional tribute to the late political figure, describing him as a “servant-leader” and “revolutionary icon” whose legacy would continue through the young people he inspired.
Speaking during the ceremony, one speaker reflected on his close relationship with Solo and accused unnamed individuals of contributing to the circumstances surrounding the late leader’s death.
“George Solo was antagonized by many people,” the speaker declared. “Those who fought the chairman, those who made sure that he met his untimely death, we know. There are individuals who served as major contributing factors to the Chairman leaving us very early.”
The speaker said Solo’s supporters remained loyal to him not because of ethnic ties to Grand Gedeh County, but because they viewed him as a selfless leader who championed the struggles of ordinary young people.
“We did not follow you because you were our kinsman,” he said. “We followed you because you were a selfless leader.”
Recounting one of his final conversations with Solo at the Invincible Sports Park, the speaker said he advised the late chairman to remain calm and build alliances despite political tensions.
“I told him that in everything that we do, we must have allies. No matter how you feel, control your emotions,” he recalled. “And he listened to me.”
The address drew applause from mourners when the speaker warned that Solo’s followers would continue resisting those they believed opposed the late leader.
“The fight against George Solo was not against George Solo,” he said. “It was against these ordinary young men who were looking up to him as a ladder to climb on to reach their goal in life. You did not fight George Solo, you fought us.”
The speaker further vowed that Solo’s political ideals would endure, invoking the words of Liberian intellectual Dr. H. Boima Fahnbulleh: “A revolutionary does not die.”
“We want to say to you that George Solo is not dead,” he concluded. “The legacy of our leader will continue to live through us.”
The memorial service attracted supporters, political associates, and sympathizers who gathered to honor Solo’s life and contributions.
