‎A 25-year-old Nigerian national, Esther Okori, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence in Liberia, safely delivered a baby boy on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

‎Esther was rushed to Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, by authorities of the National Palace of Corrections under the directive of Prison Director Chrispin Doe.

‎According to prison authorities, Esther was already eight months pregnant when she was sentenced to prison.

‎She was convicted by Judge George S. Wiles, Sr. of the 7th Judicial Circuit Court on multiple charges, including human trafficking and economic sabotage, resulting in a 10-year jail term.

‎‎Despite her conviction, Esther now faces the challenge of caring for her newborn child while incarcerated. With all of her relatives residing outside Liberia, she reportedly has no immediate family support within the country.

‎Prison authorities and concerned individuals are appealing to members of the public, humanitarian organizations, and well-wishers to provide financial and material assistance for the welfare of the newborn baby.

‎For information on how to provide support, interested individuals may contact the numbers provided by prison authorities.
