ZWEDRU, GRAND GEDEH COUNTY Several travelers have been stranded for days around Pellezon Town as heavy rains worsen the condition of the main road linking Zwedru to other parts of southeastern Liberia.
The road has become difficult for vehicles to pass, leaving traders and other travelers unable to continue their journeys. Residents say the situation is getting worse as the rains continue.
Pellezon Youth Chairman Alex S. Nyumah Jr. said the bad road is causing serious problems for travelers, particularly those carrying goods to and from Grand Gedeh and neighboring counties.
According to Nyumah, some travelers have been forced to spend nights in the open while waiting for the road to become passable and trying to protect their goods.
He said traders carrying food and other goods risk losing their commodities because of the long delays.
Nyumah is calling on the government to act quickly by repairing the damaged sections and helping travelers who remain stuck along the road.
Residents of the area are also appealing to the authorities to address the road before the continued rains make the situation worse.
