The Ministry of Labor has reminded employers that all new work permit applications must first be supported by evidence that job vacancies were publicly advertised.
Under the directive, companies, concessionaires, and individuals seeking to hire foreign workers must show proof that the positions were advertised for at least 30 days.
The adverts must appear in two local newspapers, on two radio stations, and on two Liberian websites, including the Ministry’s official platform.
Employers are also required to demonstrate that no suitably qualified Liberian citizen is available for the position before a foreign worker can be considered.
In a statement, Labor Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah Sr. said the requirement is meant to ensure fair access to job opportunities for Liberians and strengthen compliance with existing labor laws.
The Ministry said the directive is grounded in the Decent Work Act of 2015 and related labor regulations governing the employment of foreign nationals.
It added that the measure is not new but a reinforcement of existing rules aimed at prioritizing local employment.
Employers and concessionaires have been urged to comply to avoid delays or rejection of work permit applications.
