Leading Anti-Corruption CSO, CENTAL, Slams Pres. Boakai for Shielding Corrupt Officials

By: Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

The Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) has strongly criticized President Joseph Boakai for what it calls “selective accountability” in the fight against corruption. In a recent statement, CENTAL Executive Director Anderson Miamen urged the President to dismiss Dorr Cooper, accused of fraudulent academic conduct at the University of Liberia.

Miamen noted that while President Boakai has acted against some officials, others, such as Cooper and former LTA Commissioner Abullai Kamara remain untouched. He also questioned the government’s settlement of nearly half a million USD to suspended Central Bank Governor Aloysius Tarlue without prosecution.

According to CENTAL, both former and current university leadership have confirmed Cooper’s academic fraud, yet he continues to serve in a government role linked to accountability. The organization warns that this undermines public trust and sends the wrong message to students and officials.

“This inconsistency contradicts your anti-corruption promises and sets a dangerous precedent,” Miamen stated, calling for Cooper’s immediate dismissal to restore credibility in the administration’s integrity efforts.
