A lowbed trailer transporting a heavy-duty excavator has plunged into the Gen River in Geneken Town, along the 75-kilometer Barclayville–Pleebo highway, causing alarm among residents and travelers in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was traveling from Barclayville toward Pleebo when it suddenly lost control, veered off the roadway, and fell into the river. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established.
Residents who witnessed the incident said people rushed to the scene immediately after the truck entered the water.
“We saw the truck leave the road and go straight into the river. Everyone nearby rushed there to help, but the vehicle was already in the water,” one eyewitness explained.
The lowbed trailer was carrying a heavy excavator at the time of the accident. Despite the dramatic nature of the incident, preliminary reports indicate that no major injuries were recorded. The driver and other occupants of the vehicle reportedly escaped without serious harm.
Photos and videos from the scene show the truck partially submerged in the river, while the excavator remained attached to the trailer. Community members gathered in large numbers to observe the situation and assist where possible.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety along the Barclayville–Pleebo highway, an important transportation corridor connecting Grand Kru and Maryland Counties. The road is frequently used by heavy-duty trucks transporting construction equipment, mining machinery, and commercial goods.
Residents have called on authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and identify measures that can help prevent similar incidents in the future.
As of press time, local authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the accident. Recovery operations for the truck and excavator are expected to begin following technical assessments by relevant authorities and equipment operators.
The incident remains under investigation.
