32 Health Workers Travel to China for Public Health Training

By Emmanuel M. Karnga

RIA, Margibi–A delegation of 32 Liberian healthcare workers have departed the country to Chengdu, China, where they will participate in a two-week seminar focused on public health and health standards.

The seminar, which runs from May 9 to 22, 2025, is fully funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

It forms part of an ongoing health cooperation agreement between Liberia and China, aimed at strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system through international exposure and technical collaboration.

During a pre-departure briefing at the Ministry of Health, Assistant Minister for Curative Services, Dr. Teyah Sackie Moore, emphasized the importance of global partnerships in health system development.

“This training offers a unique opportunity for our health workers to gain firsthand experience of China’s healthcare innovations and regulatory practices,” Dr. Moore said. “Let us go and lift the flag of Liberia higher.”

Dr. Moore also noted that the seminar will focus on four key areas: knowledge exchange, health technology, healthcare software applications, and regulatory standards.

Delegates will tour major health institutions in China and engage in discussions with top Chinese health officials.

Participants were drawn from across Liberia’s health sector, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA), National Food Safety Authority, John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK), and other key agencies such as LMHRA, LMDC, and county-level clinical supervisors.

The Ministry of Health expressed gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for its consistent support to Liberia’s health initiatives.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Ministry expressed optimism that the training will help modernize public health practices and enhance healthcare delivery back home.

Dr. Moore concluded with a message of encouragement: “Represent Liberia with pride, adhere to local laws, and return with solutions that will drive national health development.”

The initiative is a continuation of China’s long-standing support for Liberia’s post-war recovery and capacity building across key sectors.
