Driver Decries Poor Roads, Questions Value of Town Hall Projects in Grand Kru

By Patrick Teah, Jr.

Grand Kru County — A commercial driver in Grand Kru County District #2 has voiced strong concerns over what he describes as misplaced development priorities, urging authorities to address the county’s deteriorating road network.

Mr. James Lawrence, a resident and driver operating along the Sasstown Daryokpo to Nrokia road corridor, said the poor condition of the Sasstown road continues to hinder transportation and drive up the cost of goods in the area.

Speaking on Monday, April 13, Mr. Lawrence criticized recent development initiatives that have focused on the construction and dedication of town halls and other public facilities, while key roads remain largely impassable.

His comments follow a recent county tour by Senator Bartekwa, during which several town halls were commissioned and additional projects launched. According to Mr. Lawrence, many of these structures, including market buildings, are underutilized and have had little impact on improving the daily lives of residents.

“As a driver and businessman, the road situation is affecting us badly. Goods are expensive because transport costs are high,” he said.
He noted that the poor state of roads in District #1 and neighboring communities has contributed to a rising cost of living, making basic commodities more expensive than in urban areas with better infrastructure.

Mr. Lawrence also expressed concern over what he termed inadequate legislative attention to road development. He pointed out that in some communities, feeder roads are being maintained through private initiatives, including contributions from local residents such as Hilary Gray of Bolloh Poe.

He called on national and county authorities to prioritize road rehabilitation, emphasizing that improved transportation infrastructure is essential to boosting trade and easing the burden on residents.

“Development should start with roads,” he added, stressing that accessible and reliable transport routes are critical to economic growth and everyday life in Grand Kru County.
