Senegal has taken full control of one of its most significant energy assets, the Yakaar-Teranga gas project, following the withdrawal of Kosmos Energy without financial compensation.
The government confirmed that the project’s exploration license will now be held exclusively by PETROSEN, the state-owned oil company, marking a major shift in the country’s management of its natural resources.
Yakaar-Teranga, located offshore in deepwater, is considered one of Senegal’s largest gas discoveries, with an estimated 25 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas. The project plays a central role in the nation’s long-term hydrocarbon strategy.
Officials say full ownership will strengthen Senegal’s plans to boost domestic energy supply, support industrial growth, and expand into liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
