“Two Rounds of Bullets Fired,” Police Officers Accused of Shooting Amid Eviction Order

The Procurement Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Mr. Charles Massallay, has accused police officers of firing two rounds of live bullets at his residence in the Mount Barclay Community.

According to Mr. Massallay and multiple sources, the sheriff and police had gone to enforce an eviction order pertaining to some 17 acres of land belonging to Businessman John Youbouty. The vehicle of Mr. Massallay also allegedly got hit by a bullet.

“We as humans. We are not cows. We are not chickens. I am not a pig. I tried to reach out to the Youbouty family. The dogs started barking while I was telling the sheriff about another stay order that the community also got to prevent them from demolishing; I just heard the bullet sound.

The police fired my dog. I was confused. I asked him why you shot my dog. I asked, “Is it that you came to shoot me.” My dog did not attack him. I have never been served a court order before. I have only asked Mr. Youbouty to show some humanity to these community people allegedly occupying his land. But I got confused when he fired my dog. Two rounds of AK47 bullets were fired. I think the laws are clear. I will register my case,” Mr. Charles Massallay explained his ordeal.

According to the writ, the sheriff was mandated by the court to evict dozens of residents who are “illegally” occupying Mr. Youbouty’s 17 acres of land specifically in the Nimba United Community, Mount Barclay, Montserrado County. This paper has been making efforts to get comments from the Liberia National Police and Mr. Youbouty but to no avail up to this reporting time.
